Anzac Village Pre School welcomes each child as a unique individual who will be treated with respect and dignity. Children are encouraged and supported in learning experiences that assist in the development of the whole child, in a safe and secure environment. We aim to provide the highest possible standard of pre school education. This is achieved through the structure of the pre school's sessions and the provision of separate programs for children in their third year and those in their fourth and fifth years. The program for children in their third year focuses on socialisation, cooperation, language and self help. The program for 4 and 5 year olds also aims to develop children's skills in many areas of development and independence and has a strong
emphasis on school preparation and transition.
WE BELIEVE
All children are individual and therefore have individual needs.
Children should feel safe and secure in their environment.
Children learn best by "doing", using concrete materials; exploring, experimenting and using their senses in an environment which promotes learning.
Children should be actively involved in their own learning:
they will be provided with opportunity to make choices
they will be encouraged to move freely and independently
their learning will be fostered independently and/or in groups
Learning experiences will be:
based on the needs and interests of the children in the group
based on a balance of passive and active activities
developmentally appropriate
interesting and attractively presented
Children interact and learn best in small groups.
Children should be given the opportunity to be involved in a variety of experiences and be given appropriate guidance, which will assist them in developing a positive self-esteem and self-image.
A consistent environment provides security where children develop trust, confidence and self-control.
A cross cultural, anti-bias approach to Early Childhood Education is achieved through celebrating special cultural or religious events that children celebrate at home.
By inviting parents to the Centre to share these experiences with the children through songs, cooking, craft and other activities.
Positive role modelling and verbal praise are essential.
Children should be given the opportunity to manage their own conflict situations. The adult should be the mediator, listening to both sides and helping the children to resolve their own conflicts.
Children have the right to be given the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential in all areas of development.
Access to support and intervention services, for both families and children regardless of socio-economic, cultural, religious backgrounds or additional needs are essential. The Centre has a commitment to meeting children's individual needs and to act as a resource for parents. The Centre provides opportunities for staff to develop skills fostering the development of children with additional needs by inviting other professionals to share their area of expertise and liaise with all other professionals involved. We incorporate a team approach with parents, staff and professionals.
Children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent will be provided with high quality, accessible and affordable care.
Educational programs, fostering their identity, will be culturally appropriate.
All staff bring to this Centre their own ideas, skills, experience, attitudes, beliefs, backgrounds and life experiences. Opportunities exist to foster and share these experiences in a cooperative team environment.
Parents should be actively involved in their children's learning. They are encouraged to have input to the development and implementation of the curriculum, to become involved in the Parent Management Committee, and to assist with maintaining the quality of the centre's environment.
Children deserve to be challenged, inspired and encouraged to question the world around them.
