The following set of principles provides the foundations upon which the educational philosophy of Fairfield Nursery School is based.
Children, teachers, parents, everybody can learn.
All children should be provided with equal educational opportunities to develop the best of their potential in all areas of their personality (Cognitive, Gross motor, Fine motor, Social/Emotional, Language and Creative).
Children's home language and cultures should be appreciated and, whenever possible maintained and developed.
Children should be assisted to develop English language skills, pre-literacy, pre-numeracy skills.
The education provided should cater for individual needs and interests but it should also cater with ample opportunities to develop social skills.
The quality of children's learning is enhanced when:
a. The environment is happy,loving,caring and non threatening b. Children are provided with numerous "hand on" experiences. c. Achievements are assessed and evaluated in the context of process rather than end products.
Children should be provided with good health practices and a safe environment.
Children's parents and families work together with teachers in the children's educational process. This partnership is based in trust and respect for each family's cultural background and child rearing practices.
We recognise the value of play in its capacity to enhance children's learning and development.
