School Readiness Classes
Is your child heading to ‘big school’ in 2020 or 2021? Begin Bright Hoxton Park runs school readiness classes for children of this age to help with the huge transition to Kindergarten. Our school readiness lessons incorporate activities such as, learning  to spell & write their own name, learning the sounds letters make, recognising letters, constructing the letters correctly & starting the reading process by learning to join sounds together to create words. We also focus on a number concept every week, learning how to count objects, add & subtract numbers & also to recognise numbers to 20.

Our fully qualified teachers encourage students to become independent learners & because the classes only run for 1hr, they are a great way to collaborate with their learning from day care or pre-school.

If you’re interested in trialling one of our classes, head to our website www.beginbright.com.au/enrol/hoxtonpark or contact Emma on 0484242900. Allow your child to be prepared for Kindy by enrolling them today!

Primary Tutoring
Begin Bright offers tutoring for Primary aged students. We work with parents & the student to help develop their confidence & improve their knowledge in areas of Literacy &/or Numeracy.

This year, we started stage based group tutoring. This allows students to work in small group situations with students at the same year level as them. The fully qualified primary school teacher will differentiate each lesson to suit individual learning styles & needs. These groups are ideal for students who need a little extra push in either Literacy, Numeracy or both. There is a maximum of 5 students per group & students can attend either the Literacy class only, the numeracy class only, or both within the week.

Bookings are essential! For more information or to have a chat with a fully qualified teacher about how we can assist your child, please call 0484242900.

For more information about any of our programs, please contact Emma on 0484242900 or email her at hoxtonpark@beginbright.com.au
Alternately, you can go to our page on the Begin Bright website to find out more about our timetables & to make a booking.

Vision Australia  Readiness group for parents and carers
Vision Australia’s Readiness groups have been developed by, and are led by, our specialist staff including:

  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech Pathologists
  • Assistive Technology Specialists
  • Orientation & Mobility Specialists
  • Counsellors

Education in the early stage of life is the foundation for independence, inclusion and employment.
So much of a child’s learning is through incidental visual learning and occurs with family. Children who experience a vision impairment learn less by watching others and more through fun and accessible play activities.

Vision Australia’s Readiness groups for parents and carers have been specifically developed to help you build the skills and knowledge needed to support your child to be successful in the home environment and the community, now and in the future.

The groups will include educational sessions for parents/carers about the child development areas they identify as important for their children. These sessions will focus on supporting parents and carers to implement key strategies to support their child at home and in the community with life skills, independence and social inclusion.
Groups will include content such as:

  • Setting expectations for your child and helping them to achieve them
  • Self-advocacy skills
  • Equipment and Aids to increase independence
  • Support and services available for school children
  • Career awareness and future employment
  • Hear from parents and others who experience blindness or low vision

If your child experiences low vision or blindness and is 0 – 12 years old, please call to find out more and book in for the next group in your area. Be quick as places are limited!

The next group will commence:  To be confirmed based on interest.  Location: Liverpool, Campbelltown or Caringbah depending on attendee preference. The group will run once a week for 6 weeks.   Contact Us  Call: 1300 847 466 or email us

Learning Links
If your child is showing signs that they struggle with learning, have social, emotional or behavioural issues, or are behind their peers with speech development or fine and gross motor skills, Learning Links is here to help.

We offer a range of assessments, including cognitive/IQ, academic skills, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, behavioural, speech and language, and occupational therapy. Our professionals can determine your child’s strengths, needs, preferred learning style and any appropriate interventions – an important first step in understanding how to best support them.

Following each assessment, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report to outline results as well as recommendations for your child. This can be also used to support your child’s NDIS plan.

Learning Links understands that every child is unique and has different strengths and challenges. That’s why we work closely with each family to provide guidance and the best possible program and opportunities for them to reach their full learning potential now and in the future.

PARENT INFORMATION

Child car safety starts with properly fitting appropriate child seats and ensuring they are used correctly. It can also help to keep children happy and entertained so that you can focus on driving.

Driving with children Children aged 0 to 7 years must travel in a safely fastened child restraints. The right car seat or booster seat for your child depends on how old and how big he is:

Rearward facing (child faces the rear of the car) - use from birth and up to 6 months, with a built-in 5 or 6 point harness. Type A in the Australian Standard.

Forward facing (child faces the front of the car) - use when the child has outgrown the rear facing restraint up until at least 4 years of age, with a built-in 5 or 6 point harness. Type B in the Australian Standard.

Note: Forward facing restraints, Type B, fits most children up to at least 4 years of age. However, a new forward-facing restraint with an inbuilt harness, Type G, can be used up to approximately 8 years of age.

Booster seat - for children who have outgrown their forward facing restraint up to at least 8-10 years of age, to position the lap and sash belts safely. Type E, F in the Australian Standard.

Note: Booster cushions are boosters without the back and side wings that protect the child's head. They are being phased out, except for those built into cars.

Lap sash seatbelt - a seatbelt that has one part that goes across the lap and another that goes over the shoulder. It's recommended that children move to a lap sash belt only when they've outgrown the full booster seat or when their eyes are higher than the back of the full booster seat. A good adult seat belt fit can be achieved when a child is approximately 145 centimetres tall.

If your child is too small for the restraint specified for their age, they should be kept in their current restraint until it's safe to move to the next level.

Remember: it’s illegal and unsafe to carry your child on your lap in a car, even if you’re wearing a seatbelt.
